The Problem
In Africa woman cook traditionally over open fires, in which 3 stones hold a large pot in place over the flames. It is not uncommon that children and woman suffer often from burns, many severe. One of the worst problems is the inhaled smoke that the children and woman have to deal with daily. Constant eye and lung problems are the results.
The amounts of wood needed is also a problem because they need large amounts of wood because the heat escapes and the wood burns fast on open fires. There is not always wood in the immediate area and the woman and children walk long distances to get the wood for the fires. Often wood has to be purchased on the open market and it is very expensive. Wood forests are being flattened at a very fast and extensive rate making life there more difficult and our natural world climate balance is being harmed.
